Summer, sun, outdoor activities & homemade ice cream
Ice cream is a popular choice, but most ice cream parlors are not exactly close to hiking trails or campsites. With the food jug and the right ice cream recipe, you can make your own ice cream and enjoy it on the go.
Making your own ice cream is super easy and quick. And even better: ice cream to go is the perfect refreshment on the go.
You will need the following ingredients for the homemade ice cream:
- 200 g sweetened condensed milk
- 200 g cream (full fat)
- 75 g Greek yoghurt
- 1 vanilla pod
- a pinch of salt
If you like, you can refine the ice cream with the following ingredients:
- fruit puree
- crumbled butter biscuits
- chopped dark chocolate
- melted peanut butter
Now just make the ice cream yourself:
- Pre-chill the freezing form: Place the freezing form in the freezer during preparation. This will help the ice cream to set faster.
- Make the condensed milk mixture: Mix the sweetened condensed milk with the pulp of a scraped vanilla pod and the Greek yogurt in a bowl.
- Add additional ingredients: If desired, you can now add any other ingredients.
- Whip the cream until stiff: In a second bowl, whip the cream with a hand mixer until stiff.
- Fold in the condensed milk mixture: Then carefully fold the cream into the condensed milk mixture.
- Pour the ice cream mixture into the form: Pour the ice cream mixture into the chilled freezer form and place in the freezer for at least 4 hours.
- Pre-chill the food jug: Also pre-chill the open food jug in the freezer before setting off.
- Fill the food jug: It is best to fill the ice cream into the insulated container using a scoop-shaped ice cream scoop and close it tightly.
And you're ready to go! Pack your thermal container and enjoy your homemade ice cream at the top of the mountain, on the beach or wherever you happen to be.
Here are a few tips for the perfect homemade ice cream to go:
- If you add extra ingredients to the ice cream, make sure they are not too runny. Otherwise the ice cream will be too soft.
- Don't fill the ice cream container too full, so it won't soften so quickly.
- Make sure that the foof jug is well closed and that it is closed again quickly after filling. This will keep the ice cream cold for longer.
We hope you enjoy trying it out!
